Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah yesterday disclosed that Nigerian Army has developed new strategies to contain the current security challenges confronting the nation.

This is as Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adeshola Amosun also stated that the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism working against the peace of the country must be all inclusive.

In his address as the reviewing officer at the Passing Out Parade (POP) of Direct Short Service (DSS) commission course 23/2014 cadet, held in the Nigeria Air Force base, Kaduna yesterday, Air Marshal Amosu said the Air-force is sparing no efforts to rid Nigeria of the scourge of terrorism and insurgency and bequeath the nation, the peace and stability needed for development and prosperity.

A Man Steals 4year Old Girl Through The Window While She and her Mother where Fast Asleep In Shasha Lagos

Residents of Shasha, Alimosho area of Lagos were shocked after an identified man stole a four-year-old girl, Favour Anani, through the window net while asleep with her mother in their home. Information has it that Favour and her mother, Janet, a trader, were sleeping around 4am on the fateful day when an unknown hand tore through the net of their one room apartment and snatched the child from the bed. The 20-year-old mother of three was said to have raised the alarm on discovering her child had been missing. Despite intense search by residents of Yahaya Street where the incident happened, the girl could not be located. The matter was said to have been reported at the Shasha Police Division, and was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba for investigation. Although the culprit could not be identified, the mother of the victim was said to have told policemen she suspected a neighbour who had been showing interest in the girl and had joked that he would marry her off to his homeland in Akwa Ibom State. Our correspondent learnt that the suspect, Sunday Thomas, a bus conductor, had on the day preceding the incident played with Favour, and other kids in the neighbourhood. His brother, Friday, who was on a visit and was with him, had expressed admiration for little Favour to the delight of her mother. Meanwhile also gathered that after Sunday was arrested and was asked to locate his brother, he said he did not know his whereabouts. Sunday, an Ibibio, was arrested and arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s court on two counts of child stealing. The charge reads in part, “That you, Sunday Thomas, and others at large, on May 26, 2014 at about 4am, at Yahaya Street, Shasha, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit; child stealing. “That you did steal one Favour Anani, a female, aged four years.” The police prosecutor, Etim Ekankuk, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the offence was punishable under sections 231 and 275 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011. Sunday said he was not guilty of the charge and elected summary trial. His defence counsel urged the court to admit him to bail in liberal terms as he was still presumed innocent in the eyes of the law. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Demi-Ajayi, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties, each in like sum. She added that the sureties must depose to an affidavit of means, their addresses verified and the sum of N25, 000 deposited in the account of the Chief Registrar of the state’s high court, pending the conclusion of the case. The matter was adjourned till August 4, 2014.

Utochukukwu had been telling his parents he was frustrated and would kill himself, but they did not take him serious until the incident happened. His elder brother, Ebuka, was said to have seen him setting himself ablaze and raised the alarm. A source said, “Nobody knows exactly why he took that decision. He wet the bed with the kerosene as well, including the house. He then lit a matchstick and set everywhere on fire.” Firemen from the Lagos State Fire Service, Ikotun division, were said to have been called by a resident.

They were said to have arrived the scene just on time with 10,000 litres of water with which they doused the flames. The victim was luckily saved, but with a high degree of burns. The Director of the state fire service, Rasak Fadipe, confirmed the incident, adding that parents should be wary of the comments of their children. He said, “Parents must not lose guard of their duties to their children. Where a child has been threatening that he would kill himself, it is important that parents take such a child apart for counseling to avert tragedies.” In another development, Etisalat’s warehouse on Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja, caught fire on Tuesday morning. Fadipe said only the company’s panel and cables were destroyed. He cautioned people living in the state to be more fire conscious and take extra care when using electrical appliances.

Man Stabs Self to Death after Fiancée Dumped Him in Ogun State

A 33-year-old-man, Oluwatosin Otaiku, last weekend, allegedly stabbed himself to death over disagreement with his fiancee, identified as Olaogun Oluwatoyin.
Vanguard gathered that the deceased decided to kill himself few weeks after he was told by his girlfriend that she was no more interested in the relationship.
It was further gathered that the deceased’s neighbours, who were aware of the development, reportedly called the warring parties to break the truce and resolve the disagreement.
An eyewitness had it that the duo were made to discuss in privacy inside a shop at Safari junction in Onikolobo not suspecting that the deceased came to the venue with a knife in case the outcome went against him.
It was further gathered that Oluwatoyin stood her ground, maintaining that she couldn’t continue with the relationship.
The deceased reportedly brought out the knife which forced Olaogun to storm out of the shop thinking she was the target.
Olaogun immediately alerted neighbours who rushed to the scene and met the deceased stabbing himself.
He was rushed to Mercy Hospital, Panseke before he was later referred to Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Idi-Aba in Abeokuta but he died on the way to the hospital.
Policemen from Adigbe Division, who were drafted to the scene for investigation, took the remains of Otaiku to State Hospital, Ijaye and whisked three persons away in an Hilux van marked NPF 7092 C.
Reacting to the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the police were still holding Olaogun until a postmortem examination is carried out on the deceased.
Adejobi explained that the command was still examining the statements by the suspects and eyewitnesses.
He said: “The lady is still with us, she is still our suspect for now until we carried out a proper investigation on the corpse. We need some time to study the statements but the expert’s opinion is to carry out a postmortem on the body.”
